Coughing, sneezing, itchy eyes, runny nose, and a scratchy throat? Are you suffering from upper respiratory sensitivities?
Seasonal vs Non-Seasonal Allergies
Seasonal allergies are usually caused by sensitivities to pollen that is released during certain seasons. This includes pollen from trees, grasses, and weeds. Seasonal allergies usually worsen in the spring and fall, although it’s possible to be exposed to pollen sporadically throughout the year.
Non-seasonal allergies, also called perennial allergies, are caused by exposure to substances other than pollens that occur throughout the year. These include allergies to mold, pets, feathers, other animals, insects, and dust mites. With perennial allergies, you usually experience symptoms daily or when specifically exposed to these allergens.
It is common to have both seasonal and perennial allergies.
Upper respiratory sensitivities are some of the most common chronic conditions in America. More than 50 million Americans are affected each year, and the numbers continue to rise.
The prevalence of upper respiratory sensitivities has also increased in children. Millions of Americans are dependent upon medications that have side effects like drowsiness, throat irritation, and nervousness.
